Hello on Friday Morning

Dear Friends,

Our day went exactly as planned. I played a quick nine holes with the usual suspects minus one golfer. I had forgotten that this baby boomer friend was still working. He was among the students and teachers in Berkshire County who went back to school.

Well he missed a pleasant day on the course which was almost empty of golfers.

Fall is the best time of the year for playing golf. A good number of people put away their clubs. The first hint of cold weather has the snow birds heading south.

Our golf course is the best shape that it has been all year. The winter kill on all the greens are just a distant memories.

It was so nice yesterday that it was like we were playing on our own private course.

After golf, I headed off to the Providence Care nursing home to visit dear old mom. I stayed with her through lunch. She was in good spirits. She did ask me to explain how and why she ended up in the nursing home.

At the end of the month, she will be 94 years old.

Linda did her baking while I was at the nursing home. After her baking, she had to set up three tables so that four people per table could play BONCO. At each table the host must provide snacks, but not the same ones at each table.

I decided to skip my afternoon nap, and work on my “Man Cave”. I moved some stuff around, and disposed of some stuff so that I could find a spot on the couch where I could sit and watch television. I had two sporting contests to watch. One was the Patriots vs New York Giants preseason football game. The other was the Red Sox game.

In a few short hours, I will be back on the golf course playing with the seniors. It is not supposed to hit 90 degrees today. The cooler weather comes in on Saturday. Linda and I can’t wait.

I might have to give up an afternoon nap again if I want to do some more work in the basement. This time Linda will be available to help out or we could procrastinate until next week. I am leaning towards procrastination.

Observation – It was hot in the house for the ladies when they were playing BONCO last evening. Linda and I can’t stand the heat. Next year we are purchasing an air conditioner for the first floor. Two of the ladies must not have minded the heat because they decided to have coffee. Most people wanted cold drinks. After visiting in Kansas, Hotlanta, Edisto Beach, South Carolina, we are convinced that we could never live in the summer time in places like this. I don’t want to go from and air conditioned house to an air conditioned car, to air conditioned stores, etc. I want to live in a place where 70’s during the day, and 50’s during the evening are the norm with an occasional day or two in the 80’s. I don’t want heat and humidity to control my life.

I remember going back to school when temperatures were in the 80’s, but never with temperatures in the 90’s. These past few days have been an aberration from the norm. I think Al Gore’s global warming theory is right on the mark.

Have a great Labor Day weekend!

There are so many cultural events going on here in the Berkshires this weekend that I can’t keep them straight in my head.

Usually, we are invited to a Labor Day picnic, but we haven’t heard from any possible hosts yet.

Talk to you soon. The Curley Lad
