Hello on Saturday

Dear Friends,

Another day went as planned in Curley World!

My Physical Therapy went well on Friday. The visit with my father in the nursing home went okay except dad's legs were shaking was pretty bad for the past few days.

On a happier note, good thing that I weaved in a nap on Friday afternoon nap because my head never hit the pillow (Linda's a little later since she is a night owl) until midnight after a full evening of dinning with friends at the Shamrock Restaurant and Pub, and dancing the night away at the Polish Falcon Hall to the music of the local band called "Whiskey City". The band announced last evening that they are now sponsored by Coors Light. This means that every place that they have a gig, they will be passing out promotional items; Coors light tee shirts, tee shirts for sporting teams, and all kinds of other trinkets.

The waitress at the Shamrock, who is an Irish American Club member, was listening to our conversation, and asked "Do you guys ever stay home?" We both responded by saying "No!"
Seeing my dad and other patients in the nursing almost every day of the week, gives me (and Linda a little bit less because she likes to relax more) motivation to do things and "party till I drop"!
This past week, Tuesday night was the only night that we had no evening commitments. This was after Linda had a four hour session of Mah Jongg during the day.

Are we staying home this evening? The answer is "No"! We are going back to the Polish Falcon Hall this evening for a Pasta Figioli supper prepared by one of their Italian members. We are meeting a friend at 5:30 PM in the members bar before going upstairs to the Polish Falcon Hall where the dinner will be served. We did decide that after supper, we are not going anywhere else, but back to our home.
If anyone wants to join us for the Pasta Figioli, you are welcome to dine with us. As of this moment, it is Linda and me, and just one friend. The friend does have a significant other, but he is going to a motorcycle show at the Eastern States Exhibition Grounds. He already built into his trip lunch and dinner plans in the West Springfield area, and they don't include dinner with us. Oh Darn!

This got me thinking that maybe I should get my own motorcycle, and ride down the highways and byways throughout the country. Not! The way I drive a car would just put me in harms way if I was driving a motorcycle. I can't visualize Linda sitting on the back of a big Harley Davidson in a black leather outfit. We already have so many aches and pains that it probably wouldn't be a pleasant ride.

There was a little sadness at the dance last evening. One table was set up trying to raise funds for a young lady who is dealing with bone cancer. There is a fundraiser for her on February 18 at the ITAM that the Curley's will be unable to attend.

Another table was set up, and friends were collecting money for a young lady who passed away a day ago leaving two children. This family needs money to pay for funeral expenses.

Those two sad situations is another example of "life is too short", and "not to sweat the little stuff". If you think that your aches and pains, which we all get as we age, are pretty bad, there are so many people who are worse off than you.

The saga of the neighbor up the street who hit something that turned out to be a human being made the local newspapers on Friday. The victim spoke up and explained how he was treated. He is still struggling with his physical injuries. The picture that he painted of the incident sure made it look like that it was a "Hit and Run" even though the Clerk Magistrate decided that it was a accident, and that no charges will be brought forth against the driver. The picture of her damaged car went viral over the internet yesterday. If you saw how damaged the car was, you could form your own opinion if it truly was a hit and run! This saga will continue!

We lost 6 American military personnel in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan the other day. Will the killing every stop? We never seem to learn that war might not be the best solution to solving problems. Us baby boomer were taught that "World War II was the war to end all wars". Well that lesson sure didn't happen!

My home town of Lee made the local newspaper on Friday. There is a 150 year old "Inn at Laurel Lake". The latest set of owners advertised their place on the internet. One of the owners is a licensed masseuse, and they advertised massages on the premise. Well, the police did a little sting, and found that they were giving more than massages. The stately Inn has turned into a house of prostitution. I usually go ice fishing at Laurel Lake. The Inn is about 100 paces from the Laurel Lake Parking lot where we fisherman park our cars. If I ever get a chill while ice-fishing, I know where I can go to get warmed up.

Massachusetts wants to penalize the people in our State who smoke. They want to raise the cigarette tax up $.50 more. While I don't support smoking, I don't trust our lawmakers when they get their hands on this extra money. I say "stop beating up people who smoke".
On the other hand, when we left the Polish Falcon Hall last evening, we had to make our way through the smokers who were hovering in the covered entryway into the Club. Just a two second walk through the smokers made us want to gag!

Weather -- We are getting a nuisance snow for most of the day on this Saturday. Luckily we don't have to leave the house until 5 PM.

My snow blower repair guy called yesterday to say that he was waiting for a part that was supposed to arrive possibly on Friday. I am going to need my snow blower before this day is over.

Sports -- The Celtics continued on their losing ways. At least I have the Bruins and Patriots to keep me happy! The Bruins will be playing the number one team this weekend: the New York Rangers. I can't wait for that game.

Patriots -- While at the Polish Falcon Club Dance last evening, I see an older guy walk in with a New Orleans Saints leather jacket on. He came over to our table of 10 plus people to say "Hi" to friend at our table. I commented on his jacket and the fact that his team got knocked out of the playoffs as well as how good that the Patriots are playing. He said that my New England Patriots were a "Sissy" team, and that he was cheering for the Giants. He said that he hopes that if both teams make it to the Super Bowl that he would love the Giants to kick the butts of the Patriots.

Politics -- I asked Linda if she wanted to be a participant in an "Open Marriage" like the one Newt asked his now ex wife if she would agree to. Linda said that she would use our Ron Popeil set of knives and one pair of scissors to put an end to any thoughts of us having an open marriage.

Speaking of the Patriots, I should be having a Patriot Party on Sunday, but I think that the Curley's need a day of rest unless some one invites us to their house for an impromptu party. I do have that 1 PM food fest at the Italian American Club at 1 PM for all of us people (not Linda) who entered the 16 Run Baseball Pool at the club. If I eat lightly, I could consume some Patriot Party Food once the game starts. I am not sure that I want to watch both football games alone in my Man Cave on Sunday.

Well, I rambled quite a bit today so I better end this blog.
Have a great weekend!
Talk to you soon. The Curley Lad

P.S. Don't forget that anyone on my daily blog who wishes to be taken off the list, just let me know!
