Hello on Tuesday Morning

Dear Friends,

If anyone in the Berkshires planted flowers, or purchased hanging baskets, and didn’t cover them or take in the hanging baskets, then they are dead. The temperature is 29 degrees right now.
We will be a little warmer today, but Wednesday we are in for a rainy day with highs never getting out of the 40’s, and with higher elevations possibly getting some of the white stuff.

Our Monday went as planned. Linda and I did some house cleaning because she is hosting the Tuesday Mah Jongg session as well as a Wednesday evening session for a different group of ladies. She didn’t tell her Tuesday group that she was making a crock pot of chicken vegetable soup which has been brewing all night long.

Speaking of food, the UNICO board meeting last night was an epicurean delight. Instead of having the meeting in the back room of an Italian American Club, the incoming President ( June 4, 2010) decided to host the meeting at his home. I would classify his home as a “McMansion.”
We started off the evening with some beverages and an antipasto which was to die for. Another member, who is one of our premier chefs for many of our fundraisers, cooked a putanesca for the main meal. The host made tiramisu for dessert. Someone else brought some Italian cookies.
This could be the start of something new. Like someone said at this meeting, if this is a preview of coming attractions, we will have no problem getting members to run for office.

Stock market – Like I always say, there are bumps in the road along the path to life. You have to work a little to get through these bumps, but things will turn out okay. When the stock market fell over 300 points last week, the gloom and doom people started to panic. Well, yesterday, the stock market rebounded, and more than made up for last weeks loses.

Oil Spill – This is one of the worse natural disasters that we have ever had. It eclipses the Valdez oil spill in Alaska. I hope that a solution is found quickly.

Local News – One of my e-mail recipients has been named director of the Ralph Froio Senior Center. It hasn’t hit our local newspaper yet. The friend is in his early 60’s. He managed the Catholic Youth Center for many years before becoming director of the senior center. Good Luck Vinny!

The wife of a past president of UNICO died last Friday. She had a multi month battle with lung cancer. She didn’t smoke, but her husband still does. 73 years old is a youngster in my mind. She requested no wake. The funeral Mass is tomorrow at 10 AM.

I am not sure if I can make the Mass because Linda and I have a REAM (Retired Educator Association of Massachusetts) luncheon. I have to go early to help set up, and prepare to run the meeting. I also have to greet our guest speaker from the Norman Rockwell Museum. This meeting will be taking place at the Wahconah Country Club in Dalton.

Politics – The President did introduce his choice for Supreme Court to replace the judge who is retiring. Wouldn’t it be great if the person had absolutely no skeletons in her closet? Wouldn’t it also be great if she made no political errors, decisions, etc., in her life leading up to her nomination?

Well, I have to read the local newspaper, move some furniture, and set up a card table and chairs for the Mah Jongg ladies.

Have a great Tuesday.
Talk to you soon. The Curley Lad
